The Desert Raiders
Lawless scavengers preying on the weak across the southern sands.
The Desert Raiders are a nomadic faction of opportunistic bandits and scavengers inhabiting the harsh southern deserts of the world. They operate out of scattered fortified camps, preying on travelers and caravans that cross their territory without protection. Unlike organized armies or religious cults, these groups lack a central command structure or unified ideology beyond survival through plunder. Their presence is felt most heavily in the Great Sand Sea, where they serve as a constant threat to trade routes and isolated settlements alike.

Lore & Background
They are not a unified nation but rather loose coalitions of outcasts who found freedom in the wasteland. Their society is built entirely on plunder and survival, with little regard for law or morality beyond what keeps their own pack alive. Over time, these groups have carved out territories between the crumbling ruins of old civilizations. They are notorious for kidnapping victims to sell into slavery or ransom back to families in distant cities. While they fear the massive beasts of the deep desert, they navigate its edges with practiced ease, using camels and horses to strike quickly before vanishing back into the dunes.
In Their Own Story
The sun beat down on the cracked earth as the caravan master signaled for a halt. Dust devils swirled around the wheels, masking the approach of the raiders until it was too late. Leather-clad figures emerged from the heat haze, blades drawn and eyes hungry. There would be no mercy today, only the weight of gold and the silence of the grave.
Reader's Guide
The Desert Raiders operate on a philosophy of pure opportunism. They believe that in this harsh world, strength is the only currency that matters, and weakness deserves nothing but exploitation. Their leadership structure is decentralized; each camp is run by its own warlord or captain who answers to no higher authority. Their territory consists of numerous small forts scattered across the southern sand seas, often hidden near ruins or water sources. Recruitment happens primarily through force; prisoners are either killed, enslaved, or forced into their ranks if they prove useful in combat. They maintain hostile relations with almost every civilized faction, viewing merchants and guards as easy targets for plunder. Despite their savagery, they possess a deep knowledge of the desert terrain that outsiders lack. This allows them to survive where others would perish from thirst or exposure. However, infighting between different Raider camps is common when resources become scarce, proving that even among thieves, trust is a rare commodity in the wasteland.
